The stories of the places
around you

LocoGuide shows what's interesting nearby and tells you about it out loud. Put on your earbuds, slip the phone into your pocket and just walk — the guide speaks up when you reach a landmark.

New stories are written all the time — whenever someone discovers a place we have not described yet.

How it works

Sightseeing without staring at a screen — in a new city or on your own street.

See what's nearby

A list of places within 500 m to 5 km and a map with pins. Only places that really have a story to tell.

Listen to the story

How it came to be, what to look at and what you'd miss at first glance — read aloud, with pause and skip.

Go for a walk

Turn on walk mode and pocket the phone. When you reach a landmark, the guide starts talking on its own — even with the screen off.

What LocoGuide does

Walk with earbuds or smart glasses

The phone stays in your pocket. Your music pauses for each story and plays on afterwards. Control it with the earbud button, a tap on your glasses or the lock screen: listen, pause, next place. When the guide is quiet, one tap tells you what's right next to you.

Stories from sources

Built from Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikivoyage and OpenStreetMap — with dates, people and curiosities.

Visited checklist

Places you have been to tick themselves off when GPS shows you right next to them. You can tick them by hand too.

Offline trips

Before you travel, download a whole city — places, photos and stories — and use them without a signal.

11 languages

Polish, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Arabic.

Directions to the place

One tap opens walking, transit or driving directions in your favourite maps app.

Questions

Do I need an account?

No. LocoGuide works without an account or sign-in. The daily allowance is counted by an anonymous device identifier.

Does the app track where I go?

No. Location is used only to find places nearby and — in walk mode, which you turn on yourself — to speak up at a landmark. We don't store your routes or personal data.

Where do the stories come from?

Descriptions are prepared automatically from Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikivoyage and OpenStreetMap. We choose sources carefully, but descriptions may contain mistakes.

Which voice reads the stories?

Your phone's text-to-speech voice. On iPhone you can download a better "Enhanced" or "Premium" voice for free — search Settings for "Voices".

Does it work offline?

With a pass or subscription you can download a whole city before your trip and explore without a signal. Without one, places and stories need an internet connection.
